While countless cities across the country hold a National Veterans Day Parade, the one that happens in Birmingham holds special significance as this is the city where the first Veteran's Day Celebration was held back in 1947. The tradition of honoring the men and women who fight for our freedom is still very much alive in Birmingham. The parade and festival held downtown features more than 5,000 participants, 15 bands and more than 50 floats.

Birmingham's Red Mountain Theatre both celebrates and fosters the talents of the many actors, singers and performers who make their home here. This is a non-profit professional theater organization that gives both training and performing opportunities to aspiring and culturally diverse artists. The troupe presents various entertainment productions throughout the year, with a special emphasis on musical productions.

The Nick has made quite a name for itself when it comes to introducing Birmingham's nightlife audiences to some of the best up and coming rock bands that are on the verge of making it big. Groups that play everything from alternative rock, goth, emo and more are booked for gigs at this iconic venue. The staff gets kudos for not only being extremely knowledgeable, but they are uproariously funny and always try to help you find what you're looking for. And there is plenty of vinyl through which you can rummage. Various LPs and 45s are stocked, and you will want to flip though them all—you never know what you will find. If you select a few discs that you would like to preview, the listening station complete with a turntable and headphones will allow you spin it before you take it home!
