At the end of the evening, why end it? The DC9 is the perfect place to listen to the resident DJ spin tunes until the wee hours. Or, if you prefer something a little earlier, the club is also a great place to begin your DC nightlife experience, as the venue is perfect for convening with friends and hanging out for awhile after work. In the middle of the evening, the energy level rises thanks to the excellent live bands that frequently plug in and play. Aside from the White House, the United States Capitol building is the most visited building in Washington. This incredible building with its regal dome and classic architecture symbolizes democracy to everyone who sees it. The view from the front steps is like nothing else, so make sure you have your camera with you. Tours are available at the kiosk on the southwest side of the Capitol, and are free of charge, on a first-come, first-served basis. Plan to get there early, as there are always plenty of people in line for this extremely popular attraction.

Take the plunge just a few minutes away from the heart of downtown Washington, DC by enjoying the various water sports and activities you can find at Theodore Roosevelt Island. Tackle the Potomac's Great Falls or enjoy some good exercise rowing a canoe or kayak. You can bring your own boat or rent one at Thompson Boat Center or Jack's Boathouse near the Georgetown Waterfront.

The National Book Festival attracts both writers and readers of some of the world's best-loved books. Several award-winning authors head to the National Mall for this event every September to be on hand for autograph signing and seminar appearances. The kids will love meeting some of the characters from some of their favorite books as they come to life here and are available for photos.
